Trammin` along, singing our song ...
Was shocked to learn from the Daily Yomiuri that two of Hiroshima`s four vintage streetcars will be retired at the end of this month! These streetcars survived the Atomic Bomb in World War II and are wonderful little time capsules of the roaring 40s.
With wooden interiors and thickly-plated windows, it is lovely to sit inside and listen to their merry rattle as they shamble along into the city. Most of them have rich red velvety seats inside, and one has dark emerald green interiors. The Driver`s Compartment looks rather nautical with many dials and brass-knobbed handles that one has to flick this way and that - it`s all very specialised and modern! I`ll have to snap some photos very quickly before they disappear!
