Taisho Roman Art

Back in Matsue, yesterday I visited the Shimane Art Museum with Miss C and company to see an exhibition of Takehisa Yumeji, an artist of the Taisho Roman period (1912-1926). On arrival to Nippon in Kyoto, I first glanced his artwork whilst wandering the back streets in the temple areas. Many postcards featured his doe-eyed muses either in kimono, with black cats, or 1920s cloche hats and knee-length skirts. I like the combination of traditional and modern styles in his work.
