Socks ahoy!

Reminiscent of The Cure's "Inbetween Days" era, where many a rainbow-hued sock walloped Robert Smith on the head, many footwear shoppes in Ol' Nippon are stocked with winter sockery and full-leg hosiery in anticipation of frostier weather. The shelves are stacked with stripey socks, polkadot socks, socks with novelty prints of love-hearts, bats, cats and frogs; intimidating glove-socks with a snug "finger" for each toe and traditional tabi socks, with a separate woolly compartment for one's big toe (for easy wear with getta or thong-like sandals).

I snaffled up a pair of each texture: woollen, fleece and terri-towellin' fabrics. The latter two are adorned with white fluffy pom-pom ties, and the former is resplendent in orange, pink, yellow and red stripes, the most cheerful socks ever.

Now that the autumn nights are indeed getting chillier, it is a happy sight to come home to cosy, bright socks hanging from my bedknob. Oh how glorious to potter about the house clasping a cup of hot chocolate whilst donning fluffy, stripey socks!
